Preparing for an Update

  1. Download all updaters in advance of doing the upgrade. Save this on a shared directory or a USB key so that you only need to download once. If you use both Mac and PC, make sure to download the update for both platforms.
  2. Read the release notes for any prior version and make note of any directions you need to follow that are pertinent to your operation.
    • The release notes may suggest or require an update Apache or Postgres.
    • If so, contact support to for specific details. We try to avoid the need to update those components, but it is sometimes unavoidable.
  3. It is generally a good idea to complete the first two parts of your end of day. You should deposit your credit cards, and create all sales entries.
  4. Quit Theatre Manager on all workstations in the office. Nobody can be using the database during the upgrade.

 

Doing the Actual Update

  1. Make a backup copy of the database
  2. Install the upgrade to Theatre Manager on one of the machines and start the application.
    • You will be asked if you want to start the upgrade.
    • Click to Continue if you have done your end of day an made a backup.
    • The upgrade time varies form version to version. Do not abort it even if the screen appears non-responsive
    • When you see the login screen, the upgrade is done. You can allow others to log in.
  3. Follow any of the upgrade instructions pertinent to this upgrade you noted from the release notes.

If this upgrade is a 'walk around' install, you will need to run the appropriate installer on each machine before Theatre Manager can be used on that workstation.

 

After the Upgrade Completes

  1. If you need to make any changes to the web pages per the release notes, make a backup of the web pages before changing anything.
  2. Always verify that your web services are running after any upgrade. TM Server automatically pauses them when a major upgrade is done and restarts them.

    Check the Director. Once web services are running:

    • Go to your web site
    • find an event to buy online
    • add it to your cart
    • Go to the check out page and complete the order (you may need to log in).
    If you can see all these pages, it further confirms that the upgrade is complete and web sales are running.
